Mukami Marete

Mukami is a queer feminist, with a long and broad activist career of 18 years, working at the intersection of financial management, human rights, and social justice. Her career has particularly concerned the human rights
of sexual and gender minorities people, and sex workers; and reproductive justice, and environmental justice.

Mukami has served UHAI since 2011, as Finance and Administration Manager, and then Director of Operations, and most recently, as the Deputy Executive Director. Previous to joining UHAI, she served as Finance Officer at Kenya Human Rights Commission, and Finance Assistant at Oxfam GB. Mukami also serves as a trustee at Orion Foundation (a Kenya campaign for management of cerebral palsy); a Board Member at Greenpeace Africa; a Member of the Executive Committee of the Global Philanthropy Project (a global sexual and gender minorities donors collaborative); and a Steering Committee Member of the Sex Worker Donors Collaborative.

She has an MBA in Strategy and a Bachelors Degree in Building Economics both from University of Nairobi; a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management from the Institute of Human Resource Management, Kenya; and is a Certified Public Accountant, trained at Strathmore University.

Mukami is a mother of two, and believes that love makes a family. She is raising her children to be resilient for the patriarchal, racist, imperialist, and sexist world she finds herself in.
